IMG_0813.jpgThe Hopewell Prince George Chapter of the American Red Cross is always looking for ways to reach out to our military to better serve Fort Lee Military Post. As a small chapter the partnerships we have developed with the military post are critical for the future of the entire region. Historically the Red Cross relationship at Fort Lee has been focused on volunteers- both adults and youth- at the Kenner Medical Clinic. During the next year we have the opportunity to place military volunteers at McGuire Veteran’s Hospital. This opportunity will allow our chapter to expand the volunteer base for military spouses. What the Red Cross is best known for with the military is facilitating emergency calls 24/7. Red Cross delivers important emergency messaging after careful verification is made for the critical events.

In an effort to better serve the military the Hopewell Prince George Chapter has representation from Fort Lee on our Board. This close working relationship has benefited the chapter in many ways. Four years ago our board began the "Adopt A Soldier" Golf Tournament at the Cardinal Golf Course honoring the soldiers that put their life on the line to ensure our freedom. This year General Jesse Cross partnered with our board vice-chairman Ed Littlejohn, Chief Operations Officer, John Randolph Medical Center HCA to play. At the end of the event General Cross addressed the crowd and expressed his thanks to all our volunteers and participants many of whom were retired military. He remarked on what a wonderful opportunity it was to honor our soldiers and support the HPG Red Cross while enjoying a fun filled day of golf. Next year’s "Adopt A Soldier" tournament will be held on September 9, 2010.  For information please call the chapter at 804-458-6007.
